Unemployment is 1% lower year-over-year. Overall visitation has surprisingly increased to 1.9% despite the cold weather last month. There was also an increase in convention attendance year-over-year (8.5%) due to small and midsize meetings. A big part of the convention attendance’s increase is the return of the National Association of Home Builders and Kitchen & Bath Show.
There’s a Nevada bill that seeks to raise the minimum wage. A hearing was scheduled in the first week of April. According to Laura Martin, executive director of the social justice organization, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, her group hopes that subsequent minimum wage increases would be possible. She added, “It’s not a living wage, but it’s considerably better than what we have now,” contending that wages have not kept up with inflation or rent prices.
