Who: Christine Curtis Wilson
What: Glass Artist/Photographer
I knew my trip to Africa would be very important for me, truly a pilgrimage. When I returned from South Africa and Zimbabwe at the end of April 2017, I knew what my spirit was calling me to do. Combining my glass artwork with my photography to help educate the public about issues of poaching, hunting for fur/skins, and habitat loss due to human encroachment became my mission and passion for the five species I chose to capture in photography and create in glass utilizing a special technique, Vitri-Fusáille. Vitri-Fusáille is a hybrid technique which combines the process of Contemporary Flat Glass Fusing with Traditional Glass Painting. I have been creating glass art with this technique for over Twleve years in capturing the essence of animals and it is the method I utilized to capturing the five African animals I chose to create in glass for the “Into Africa” Exhibit.
My “Into Africa” Exhibit will be on display at the West Charleston Library Art Gallery from July 18, 2019- September 22, 2019. The West Charleston Library is located at 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.and is open to the Monday – Thursday 10:00 AM– 8:00 PM, Friday – Sunday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Please come see it!
